Lace, but make it layered
By Melissa Fros
There was a time, not long ago, when lace meant one thing: delicate, innocent, maybe a bit bridal. Fast-forward to now, and lace has learned a few tricks. It’s no longer the shy guest at the fashion party. It’s the one arriving late, stealing the spotlight, and pretending it wasn’t even trying.

Layering lace is where the magic happens. Think of it as soft drama meets strategic chaos. A lace cami under a chunky knit, a sheer lace top peeking from beneath a masculine blazer, or a vintage slip dress over a crisp white shirt. It’s that whisper of contrast that makes people look twice.
Lace loves a good contradiction, it behaves best when paired with something that doesn’t. Leather, denim, oversized tailoring, even sporty nylon. Anything that says “I’m not trying too hard,” which, of course, means you absolutely are (and doing it flawlessly).

The trick is to play with transparency and texture. Don’t be afraid of showing layers beneath layers; the intrigue lies in what’s almost visible. Because lace isn’t about being demure anymore, it’s about storytelling in threads.
So, the next time you’re getting dressed and think, “Is this too much lace?”—the answer is probably just enough.
