A Day of Beauty and Purpose: Oscar de la Renta & Superfine at The Met

On May 8, I had one of those days that remind me why I fell in love with fashion and art in the first place.

I traveled to New York City to work backstage at a special fundraising show for Oscar de la Renta. It was my second time working with the brand this season, and once again, it felt like a dream. Being part of something with so much elegance and heart, especially for a cause, fills me with pride and reminds me how deeply fashion can move us.

Since it was a fundraiser/auction, we couldn’t take pictures and they didn’t publish images of the event

Just like my first time backstage with Oscar de la Renta (you can read about that here), the behind-the-scenes moments were just as fascinating as what people saw on the surface. There’s a quiet magic in watching a show come together: stylists, models, designers, and every little detail working in harmony. Being in that space always makes me feel both grounded and inspired.

And this time, something extra special happened: my model was Marina Nery, a Brazilian model I first met back in 2013 during my very first fashion show experience at Fashion Rio in Brazil. I was just getting started, full of nerves and excitement, and she was already on the runway. She wore 3 fabulous looks. More than ten years later, I met her backstage again. This time, at an Oscar de la Renta show in New York, it was incredibly moving. It felt like a beautiful reminder of how far I’ve come and how these meaningful connections stay with us through the years.

After the show, I joined my dear friend Marcia Crivorot at Superfine: Tailoring Black Style at the Met. She got us tickets for the very first day! I couldn’t believe we were able to see it as soon as it opened.

Superfine is a powerful exhibition by the Costume Institute that explores over 300 years of Black style and tailoring. It highlights how fashion has been used as a form of self-expression, resistance, pride, and identity. The exhibition is beautifully curated, featuring historic portraits, designer pieces, photos, and even video, with each section telling a distinct story. It was emotional and inspiring, and I felt honored to be there.

Walking through those rooms, filled with powerful voices and rich history, felt like the perfect contrast to the elegance and legacy of the Oscar show: two very different creative spaces, and both reminding me of the deeper purpose behind beauty and style.

It was an awesome day in the city! One of those days that fills your heart and soul. I finished the night feeling physically exhausted, but so thankful for the incredible experiences and the memories I created. From the elegance of the Oscar de la Renta show to the powerful stories at Superfine, it was a day I won’t forget.
