What Are We Learning as Fashion Week Season Wraps Up?

13 going on 30 - The Vibe

The first thing that struck me in Milan was not a silhouette or a fabric. It was the feeling. The shows felt like opening a time capsule, the looks pulling me back into memories I thought I had left behind.

My friend Silvia once told me something I cannot stop thinking about. Trends return two generations later, usually twenty to twenty five years. She explained it beautifully. Your kids do not want what they saw their parents wear, but your grandkids will think it is fresh and fall in love with it. Suddenly everything made sense.

For me, it was like my teenage closet had snuck onto the runway. For my friend’s fifteen year old daughter, it was discovery. She is saving money for a mystery bucket of vintage jewelry on TikTok Shop. Sellers put together a surprise mix of retro pieces and teens are obsessed.

It proves the point. The new generation is falling in love with the eighties, nineties, and Y2K.

So I wonder. Is fashion reflecting a society that feels a little homesick? Or is it giving us a softer place to dream?

Here is what I know. Despite a tough economy, commercial collections are what keep brands alive. At the same time, we all need a little magic. There is already enough bad news in the world. A realistic fashion week would not inspire us. The runway should remind us how good it feels to dream. Deep down, I was so happy to get that feeling this season.

To keep the mood alive, I created a catalog with nostalgic pieces I found lately, inspired by Fashion Week. I hope you love it as much as I do.
